A Covid-19 Summer in Spain
Having spent two weeks in Mijas, near Malaga in September 2020, the impact of the pandemic on people and economy became clear very quickly.
The press is already labelling the area southern Spain’s “ghost coast”. More than 80% of hotels on the Málaga beachfront have closed without knowing when they might reopen.
Masks are mandatory in all public places. This also means wearing a mask in 35°C heat while exploring scenic villages and even on the beach, when moving around.
It still was a enjoyable trip, with mostly national tourists roaming the scenic spots.
