Bad Gastein is an Austrian spa and ski town in the High Tauern mountains south of Salzburg. It’s known for the belle epoque hotels and villas built on its steep, forested slopes.

The city center is lined by a series of abandoned hotels which just recently have been bought back by the city to renovate.

Spending a few days here in the winter has a very special charme to it and it becomes clear why it is also called Monte Carlo of the Alps.
