The Sea of Galilee, also Kinneret, Lake of Gennesaret, or Lake Tiberias is not a “sea” but a freshwater lake in Israel. It is situated south of the Golan Heights in the Jordan Valley, about 200 meters below sea level.
Recently the lake where Christians believe Jesus walked on water has declined to its lowest water level in a hundred years.
There are a lot of historical and religious sites spread around the Sea of Galilee, visited by busloads of tourists.
We were lucky to spend five days in the region, off-season and also could dip our feet in the water on a few occasions.
